Apply to School Counseling

The following degree options are available for School Counseling:

Admission Information for the M.A. and M.Ed.

To be considered for admission into the school counseling master鈥檚 programs, applicants need to hold a bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited university by the date of entry. Undergraduate majors do not need to be in psychology (or related fields) to be considered as a prerequisite for admission. At a minimum, applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and hold a B or better in their last two years of undergraduate study.

Transfer Credit for the M.A. and M.Ed.

Upon acceptance, new students may transfer up to 12 credits from a CACREP program, or equivalent, towards our 60-credit hour master鈥檚 program.

To be considered to transfer into our program, course credits must be earned from a CACREP approved, or its equivalent, graduMate program within the last five years. Your final grade in the course must be a B or better and courses must directly relate to those required for 老澳门开奖网's school counseling program.

New students work with their academic advisors. Faculty advisors will determine if credits can be transferred into the program. Students must submit a syllabus and transcript for review to their academic advisor upon acceptance into the program. Academic advisors approve all transfer credits.

Clinical classes such as techniques, group counseling, practicum, and internship cannot be transferred into our program.

Application Deadlines for the M.A. and M.Ed.

The school counseling program admits students in the summer and spring semesters. We admit a cohort of 30 (summer) and 20 (spring). Some years our cohort numbers could be less to maintain our student to faculty ratios as required by CACREP. Invited applicants must attend an admission interview.

Additional Admissions Details

Additional Application Information

It is the policy of departmental admission committees to give promising applicants the opportunity to undertake graduate work. A careful examination of an applicant's academic and professional qualifications precedes every admission decision. The committees look for previous academic achievement by considering an applicant's undergraduate and graduate records. Work experience is assessed through the presentation of a resume or vitae and professional references.

Applicants accepted for graduate study will be advised in writing. At the time of admission, individuals will be informed of any courses for which they have qualified for advanced standing and/or additional courses or prerequisites requiring completion before commencing their graduate studies. A program advisor who assists in planning a program of study will be assigned, and students are responsible for discussing any special needs they may have with their advisor.
