Full-Time, One-Year Program

ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø’s full-time Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed to prepare exceptionally qualified teachers who are culturally and linguistically responsive to the needs of diverse learners in just one year. 

Elementary Program

The MAT elementary program requires 39 credit hours. 

Program Format
  • The full-time MAT is completed in one year (summer-spring).
  • The full-time program begins in May. 
  • Courses are offered in the evenings. 
  • In the fall semester, students will attend internship in a local school two days per week, with full-time internship in the spring semester.

Spring: January - May

Secondary Program

The MAT secondary program requires 34 credit hours.

Benefits of the Full-Time, One-Year MAT Option

  • Full-Time One-Year students complete the program in a cohort, taking courses together throughout the year.

Teacher Certification Requirements

Completion of this program and appropriate licensure exams lead to eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification.

ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø Seniors

ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø seniors now have the option to apply to the Full-Time, One-Year MAT program through Fast-Track admission. To learn more and apply, visit the Fast-Track page.

Practical, Real-World Application

Students complete clinical experiences in Professional Development and partnership schools in the greater Baltimore area. Students who are already teaching in their licensure area may have the option to complete their field experiences and/or internship in their schools.

 

ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø’s MAT program was exactly what I was looking for— a great hands on experience with supportive and encouraging mentors. The internship experience has been amazing and I have learned so much from all of my professors and my mentor teachers, so I feel that ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø has prepared me to be the kind of educator that I strive to be.
The MAT program's clinical and academic experiences prepared me to be a teacher who models compassion, competence, creativity, preparation, reflection, and responsiveness to diverse learners. In just one year, I have grown tremendously and am proud to be a part of this community of highly qualified teachers.
As an educator, the MAT program gave me the necessary tools to promote and cultivate, diversity, equity, and inclusion in my classroom. Invaluable internship experiences alongside relevant curriculum ensured that my transition from scholar to educator be a seamless and successful one.
