Pack for Wellness

Starting college is an exciting journey filled with new experiences, challenges, and opportunities for personal growth. While here at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø, Student Health Services is here to help ensure that you are feeling your best! However, amidst the excitement of moving into your dorm and meeting new friends, it’s crucial to prioritize your well-being. Packing the right wellness essentials can make a significant difference in maintaining your physical and mental health throughout the semester. Here’s a comprehensive list of items every college student should consider bringing to campus.

Basic First Aid Kit

Accidents happen, and having a basic first aid kit can be a lifesaver.

  • Band-aids: For minor cuts and scrapes
  • Antiseptic Wipes: To clean wounds and prevent infections
  • Digital Thermometer: To monitor fevers
  • Gauze Pads and Medical Tape: For more significant injuries
  • Tweezers: For removing splinters or ticks
  • Hand Sanitizer: Keep a small bottle in your bag for convenient use
  • Tissues: Pack travel-sized packs for easy access in case of sniffles

Prescription Medications

It’s important to remember to pack any necessary prescription medications. Ensure you have enough to last until your next refill.

  • Inhalers/Nebulizers
  • Epi Pen
  • Diabetic Supplies
  • ADD/ADHD Medications

Over-the-Counter Medicines

Common ailments can disrupt your routine, so it's helpful to have a small supply of over-the-counter medicines, including:

  • Cold and Flu Medication: To alleviate symptoms and help you rest
  • Pain Reliever/Fever Reducer (Tylenol and/or Advil): to relieve headaches, muscle aches, and other pains
  • Allergy Medication/Antihistamines (Benadryl, Zyrtec, Allegra): If you suffer from seasonal allergies
  • Antacids (Tums, Pepcid, Zantac): For heartburn or indigestion
  • Cough Medicine/Cough Drops: To soothe a sore throat
  • Decongestant (Sudafed): to relieve congestion due to colds or allergies
  • Antibiotic Ointment (Neosporin, Bacitracin:) for minor cuts/scrapes
  • Hydrocortisone Cream: For itching or skin irritations

Miscellaneous Wellness Items

  • Health Insurance Card: Ensure you have a copy of your health insurance card or a digital version easily accessible
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial; a reusable bottle helps reduce waste and ensures you always have water on hand
  • Exercise Gear: If you enjoy fitness, pack workout clothes and shoes for the campus gym or outdoor activities
  • Sleep Essentials: Consider earplugs, a sleep, mask, or a small fan to help create a conducive sleep environment in dorms
  • Healthy Snacks:  Stock up on non-perishable snacks like nuts, granola bars, or dried fruit to avoid relying solely on cafeteria food
  • Stress Relief Tools: Pack stress balls, essential oils, or calming teas to help manage stress

Preparing a wellness kit tailored to your needs ensures you’re ready for whatever challenges college life may bring. By prioritizing health and wellness, students can better focus on their studies and enjoy a fulfilling college experience. Remember, a well-packed kit not only supports your physical health but also contributes to your overall well-being and academic success.
