Student Development Mission Statement
The mission of the division of student development reflects the Jesuit Catholic nature and core values of ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø. Work in student development is grounded in the distinctive worldview of the Jesuit tradition and the spiritual vision of St. Ignatius ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø, the founder of the Jesuit order. Accordingly, student development professionals seek to inspire students to learn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world. Through programs, policies, and personal interactions, students are encouraged to engage in the collegiate experience, both in and out of the class, and the development of the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø community. In order to enhance and maximize student learning and development, the student development division is committed to creating a campus culture that is educational, student-centered, disciplined, caring, just, and collaborative.

Residence Life & Housing provides the foundation for a safe and inclusive home where
community engagement is not only supported – it’s expected.
Building meaningful relationships within invested and engaged living environments,

Office of Residence Life & Housing Learning Outcomes
In 2010, the division of student development created a set of divisional learning outcomes designed to support the development of an educationally purposeful, empowered, disciplined, caring, and just community. The office of Residence Life & Housing is committed to our division's mission and seek to contribute to this mission by dedicating our efforts to achieving and assessing the following learning outcomes:
Empowered Community
An empowered community endeavors to hear what students have to say and facilitates their ability to make a difference at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø and beyond. As a Jesuit institution, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø is committed to a value of shared ownership of the community. As a result of actively participating in a student-centered community, students will:
- Appropriately challenge uncivil behavior
- Create and advocate for positive community standards and norms
Caring Community
A caring community is concerned with the welfare of each person and dedicated to upholding the dignity of all members in the community. Through the Ignatian tradition of discernment, this community fosters a sense of personal responsibility for choices and actions, and seeks a balance between enlightened self-interest and promotion of the common, "greater" good. As a result of actively participating in a caring community, students will:
- Develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships
- Develop strategies that promote personal growth
Just Community
A just community honors all persons, actively encourages and celebrates diversity, and recognizes that each member shares responsibility for the welfare of the whole community (locally, nationally, and globally). ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø's commitment to justice and diversity begins at home with creation of an environment where each individual is valued and attended to, can live safely, and can express him or herself honestly. As a result of actively participating in a just community, students will:
- Articulate the value and impact of diversity in a community
