2022-2023 Become an Office Assistant

The Office Assistant (O.A) works in the Central Office, assisting in the administration and delivery of services for the residence hall communities. The O.A. is often the first contact to residents, parents, visitors, and persons outside the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø University Maryland community and therefore must always demonstrate professionalism and customer service, while also responding quickly and effectively to student needs and other situations.

Job Qualifications

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time Federal Work Study student at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø
  2. Must be in good academic standing, having a cumulative and Fall 2021 grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  3. Must be in good conduct/judicial standing
  4. Competent in the operation of multi-line phone system, personal computers, printers, and copiers
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including, but not limited to, Word & Excel
  6. Be able to work greater than 7 hours per week, up to 15 hours per week
  7. Light lifting and considerable walking may be involved

Essential Job Functions

  1. Return to campus prior to the start of the semester for training and office coverage
  2. Provide exceptional customer service to students, parents, and stakeholders by phone, email and in-person regarding any Residence Life & Housing questions, concerns, and requests
  3. Receive and respond to emails, phone calls, and voicemails in a timely manner
  4. Ensure sensitivity and confidentiality with office documents, databases, student information, and other private resources
  5. Greet and positively engage with students, parents, and stakeholders
  6. Provide office support such as mailings, front desk coverage, errands, and filing
  7. Responsibly acquire shift coverage in the event of absence, communicating with supervisor with advance notice
  8. Maintain databases and prepare reports from the databases
  9. Have extensive knowledge of university and Residence Life & Housing housing policies
  10. Work on special and secondary projects as assigned by the Residence Life & Housing professional staff
  11. Perform additional tasks as assigned

Terms of Employment

  1. Position is for 2022-2023 academic year
  2. O.A.s must adhere to all expectations outlined in the Office Manual and Community Standards; An O.A. may be dismissed from the position for continued poor performance
  3. Each O.A. is evaluated throughout the academic year and will be provided feedback throughout their employment period
  4. The period of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of tasks, positive evaluations, and exhibition of personal growth in the position
